On this project, I mainly handled the level design and the environment.
Our game is based on the feeling of nostalgia when you return to your childhood village, the feeling of knowing a place that has lived without you but that you've always known.

Bergerose-les-Prés is a fictional French village.
We first drew inspiration from French villages to establish the mood we wanted to give our village. After that, I selected villages that fit our intentions: villages on a mountainside overlooking a valley. With the team, we had the chance to explore some of these villages, lose ourselves in their alleys, and immerse ourselves in their essence. Once we were confident in our selection of reference villages, I simplified their maps and then blended them to create map concepts that led us to the first blockouts. I came to scale the map in Unreal, then I raised buildings so we could get a better idea of the volumes. We combined this with the narration and the first navigation playtests, which allowed me to iterate.
One of the main challenges I encountered was giving volume to the village without losing the player. To do this, I added volume to the streets so the player could recognize them, I added several slopes, detours, stairs, platforms, etc.

Afterwards, I worked closely with our two prop artists so that we had as many city assets as possible to make our village tangible, but also more unique and fun assets to give each alleyway, each square, its own character.
I really loved setting up the scenery for our game !

It was quite a challenge to set up a whole small town so that it felt like it existed, but it was really exciting and fulfilling!
